On Monday, Oct. 23, the University announced that some students and staff members were forced to work from home due to the break, which impacted nearly 50 building at the school's College Park campus, including academic, administrative, and residence halls.
The incident led to canceled classes and a massive response from crews who went to work to repair the damage.
Buildings impacted by the break include:
Academic and Administrative Buildings
- Knight Hall;
- Benjamin Building;
- Tawes Hall;
- P. Mitchell Art-Sociology Building;
- Architecture Building;
- Van Munching Hall;
- Mowatt Lane Garage;
- Susquehanna Hall;
- McKeldin Library;
- University Health Center;
- Jimenez Hall;
- Chincoteague Hall;
- Preinkert Hall;
- LeFrak Hall;
- Tydings Hall;
- Taliaferro Hall;
- Morrill Hall;
- Shoemaker Building;
- Woods Hall;
- Skinner Building;
- Turner Hall;
- Francis Scott Key Hall.
In addition to the academic and administrative buildings, the following Residence Halls are affected:

- Annapolis;

- Howard;
- South Campus Commons.
